AHS Good Cause

At Aylesbury High School each form chooses a particular charity to support every year. It is a fantastic way for girls to get involved and support a good cause of their choice. In Year 9, the pupils start their GCSE citizenship coursework, which is based around advocating a pressure group and raising awareness.

This year, a group of girls from 9A have chosen to promote ‘Save the Children’, a charity that is dedicated to working with children who are exposed to poverty daily and it looks to create brighter futures for them. By saving millions of lives and working in over 120 countries, its overall aim is to eliminate poverty and establish equality between everyone, providing education and a healthy living standard to even the poorest countries. The charity covers many different areas and distributes aid in a variety of ways, looking at disasters happening currently and more long-term problems that have been going on in poor countries. Save The Children manage to save millions of children’s lives per year, providing stable and hopeful futures to children worldwide.

We were particularly impressed with the number of current emergencies and projects STC were dealing with, from West Africa and their starvation crisis, to families forgotten but still broken in the Japan earthquake, one year ago. We really urge you to support Save The Children because we, as students, can relate to them; we can see the pain that these children are going through and we know that they do not deserve it.
