Most students continue their studies into the Sixth Form at Aylesbury High School. There is a very wide range of AS and A2 subjects offered to students in Year 12 and Year 13 ranging from Art to World Development. Please see the booklet below for a full list. The majority of students choose 4 AS subjects as well as an Extension Study, which could be complementary AS study such as Critical Thinking. In Year 13, students choose to concentrate on 3 A2 subjects, so that they can focus on their depth of learning as well as being able to participate in the range of opportunities open to them in that year. They are prepared for the world beyond Aylesbury High School by information, advice and guidance about entry to Higher Education and the employment opportunities open to them nationally and internationally.
All students participate in a Community Involvement programme for one afternoon a week; helping in a local charity or organisation such as a hospital or school. The world of work isn’t forgotten about and students have undertaken short shadowing placements in a variety of settings including national newspapers and at the House of Commons. A series of Current Issues presentations ensures that the students leave the school with an informed knowledge of the wider world around them.
Being a large Sixth Form means that students have a great range of subjects to choose from, but being a large Sixth Form doesn’t mean that their personal needs are forgotten. Each student is allocated a personal tutor who will guide her through her studies and will ensure that she reaches her full potential. Her Head of Year and Head of Sixth Form are also there on hand.
