PRESS RELEASE - GCSE RESULTS 2009
“A very strong set of results from an impressive year group, with many individual triumphs.”
Well done to all 178 students receiving their results today. An excellent 69% of the results were A* or A grades and 49 students (28%) gained only A* or A grades in their GCSEs, with four students (Tasila Banda, Nina Jones, Sophie Rust and Grace Smith) managing to get A* in every single subject.
I would also like to pay tribute to the further achievements of this year group who have been very strong contributors to the wider life of the school, through outstanding music, dance and drama performances, through sporting achievements at regional and national level and in their participation in our many international activities.
42 students took AS exams in General Studies and World Development, more usually taken in the sixth form.
Looking at individual subjects, top performers include Geography, French, DT Textiles, PE and Science.
The vast majority of students will be moving into the sixth form next week and their GCSE results have given them a really good foundation for their A Level studies.

PRESS RELEASE - A Level Results Day 2009
“I am really pleased with our A and AS Level results. There are many outstanding individual performances and, despite the much publicised shortage of university places this year, the vast majority of our students have achieved the results they need to take up their chosen university place. Congratulations to everyone - students and staff - for their hard work”
When all exams are taken into account, our ‘average’ student gained 383 UCAS points (an A grade at A Level is 120 points), with the majority having at least three A Levels and one or two AS Levels.
Twenty students gained six AS and A Levels while Ximena Gill managed an excellent 4 A levels and 3 AS levels.
AS results for Year 12 look very promising, with 70% of grades being either As or Bs. The average points per entry is the highest it has ever been. A good number will be taking the AQA Baccalaureate next year which recognises and rewards students with real depth and breadth in their studies.
Christina Hood in Year 10 and Jasmin Davies in Year 11 also gained excellent A grades in German A Level.
An excellent 49% of the A levels were grade As. 46 students (27%) gained at least three A grades at A Level and ten gained at least four A grades at A level. Special mention must go to Sissi Ju, who achieved five A grades at A level, and an A at AS Level, and six students who are taking up well-deserved places at Oxford or Cambridge. Seven students are taking up places at medical, dental or vet schools.
